Preemptive scheduling of jobs with tied parameters on a single processor to minimize the number of late jobs

چکیده
We have n jobs with release times and due-dates to be scheduled on a single-machine that can handle at most one job at a time. Our objective is to minimize the number of late jobs, ones completed after their due-dates. This problem is known to be solvable in time O(n4). We show that the special case of the problem when job processing times and due-dates are tied so that for each pair of jobs i, j with di > dj , pi ≥ pj , can be solved in time O(n2). This particular setting has real-life applications. Key–Words: scheduling single processor, release date, due date, late job, algorithm

A branch and bound algorithm to minimize the total weighted number of tardy jobs and delivery costs with late deliveries for a supply chain scheduling problem
In this paper, we study a supply chain scheduling problem that simultaneously considers production scheduling and product delivery. jobs have to be scheduled on a single machine and delivered to customers for further processing in batches. The objective is to minimize the sum of the total weighted number of tardy jobs and the delivery costs. In this paper, we present a heuristic algorithm (HA...
متن کاملFast algorithms for preemptive scheduling of equal-length jobs on a single and identical processors to minimize the number of late jobs
We consider the preemptive scheduling of n equal-length jobs with release times and due dates with the objective to minimize the number of late jobs on a single and parallel identical processors. Our algorithm for the single-processor version is on-line and runs in time O(n log n). It produces an optimal schedule. Our multiprocessor algorithm is off-line, it has the time complexity of O(n) and ...
متن کاملParallel Jobs Scheduling with a Specific Due Date: Asemi-definite Relaxation-based Algorithm
This paper considers a different version of the parallel machines scheduling problem in which the parallel jobs simultaneously requirea pre-specifiedjob-dependent number of machines when being processed. This relaxation departs from one of the classic scheduling assumptions. While the analytical conditions can be easily statedfor some simple models, a graph model approach is required when confli...
متن کاملMinimizing the Number of Tardy Jobs in the Single Machine Scheduling Problem under Bimodal Flexible and Periodic Availability Constraints
In single machine scheduling problems with availability constraints, machines are not available for one or more periods of time. In this paper, we consider a single machine scheduling problem with flexible and periodic availability constraints. In this problem, the maximum continuous working time for each machine increases in a stepwise manner with two different values allowed. Also, the durati...
متن کاملA Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...
